I tested this on the shop floor. I was evaluating if it is worthwhile to have touch-screen. Click Windows start menu by touching on the screen, great! But most of the stuff on the screen is small and touch does not get to the right place. I had detailed view for Windows Explorer and could not select the right file in some five tries. Could not click “Bold” in MS Word 2007 without several tries.

Zooming in and out on images on the other hand was great with the touch screen — since that does not require precision for where exactly you touch.

On the other hand, if the laptop has multi-touch on the touch-pad, it is just as good for zooming in and out of images.

I cannot rate the item overall since I have not tested any other piece (but system is forcing me to assign one).

This is a good solid computer for the price. Have had mine for about a month and quite impressed so far. The computer has a nice sized, clear screen and plenty of power to run applications and basic everyday computer needs. Pros:
This is a very, very good computer for the price. I bought mine factory direct and added a dual core processor, and the performance is great. It is relatively light. The hard disk transfer speed is as good as my older desktop which is a higher RPM drive. It has a discrete nvidia graphics card (256mb) a separate key pad. It has a very nice, big, widescreen. And I got all this for less than 0!!! Can’t be beat.

Cons:
Look at buying an upgraded battery. Glossy cover and touch pad collect enough fingerprints to convict you in any court. Slightly bendy design.

Picked up nearly the same model at Costco for 9 after discount. Only difference is a 320GB drive instead of the 500GB drive. Seems like fairly solid construction. Keyboard is quiet. Track pad is a tad sensitive but I’ve adjusted how I use the pad with my fingers. There is a button to shut the pad off should you decide to use a mouse. Processor is fast, and, as advertised, fires up to 2.5GHz+ when doing processor intensive things. Did run a few low graphics intensive games and it did a fairly admirable job, though definitely not on high settings. Wireless-n has been solid. No mute button on the console, which is something I like, but not a big deal. Screen is bright – brighter than expected – though does have a low viewing angle from the top – and the screen doesn’t tilt as far back as my old Dell laptop did. So you really have to be pretty square in front of it. I’m not a huge fan of the outer blue plastic, but, hey, I don’t look at the back of the screen when I’m using it. The matte finish on the touchpad and handrest is smart (not like the HP’s which show fingerprints VERY easily). Overall, great value. Time will tell on durability (I’m hoping for 1.5-2yrs).

I have the model Aspire 5738Z, and it is excellent. I have had it for over 4 months now, use it every day for online University and it has never failed me. Smooth running, no freezeups. The number pad next to the keyboard is an excellent addition as I use it for my math classes. The price is right, the quality is excellent.

Sound is very good, keyboard and keys are comfortable, webcam is awesome. Battery life is as described, even though I mostly use it plugged in. I am running Windows Vista and have no issues. Love this computer.
